From our healers to our ceremonies; our food to our activities; right down to the tiniest detail, every element of our retreat exists to contribute to your journey. Culminating in an experience that is ultimately, life-changing.
In everything we do, we do it from our heart. There are no such things as rules in our approach. Instead, love, integrity and respect is what grounds our work. Extending out to every single person who joins us on this very special path of re-discovering who we truly are. No matter your background, age, gender, beliefs, condition or intention, there is no hierarchy in our relationships. Everyone is safe, supported and loved in our space.
Explore the details of our retreat below.
Led by our Shipibo Maestros, our retreat’s core ceremonial work occurs across four intensive Ayahuasca ceremonies. The ceremonies take place at twilight in our warm and comfortable ceremony space. The Shipibo shaman’ hold loving yet powerful medicine. Much can happen during these four ceremonies. But whatever may unfold there is an immense potential for deep healing to take place.
We open our retreat with a traditional Andean despacho ceremony. The ‘despacho’ is a single offering to give or ‘dispatch’ to the natural world, Mother Earth or Pachamamma in Quechua, in intentional gratitude for the wonderful blessing we’ve been given to come together for healing.
Led by our Paco, a traditional shaman from the Q’eros culture of the high Andes of Peru, this sacred ceremony is a highlight of our retreat. It is such a beautiful and uplifting way to open up our hearts before we dive into our work, while also giving us the opportunity to honor the rituals, people, and the land of the Andes.
Our mountain lodge, ‘Petra’, sets the absolutely perfect container for our healing work to unfold. Tucked away beneath one of the mighty Apus of Sacred Valley, ‘Petra’ – as the name suggests – is energetically solid and supportive like a rock. The lodge consists of 5 modern chalet homes embraced by sprawling wild, beautiful gardens. Complete with vistas of the surrounding mountain areas that are undeniably breathtaking. Each home is equipped with comfy beds, fireplace, hot showers, tea and water facilities and open living spaces to relax by fire.
‘Petra’ is our home and we love it. We feel so blessed to be supported by such beauty and comfort during the challenges of an intensive plant medicine retreat like this. And, we know our guests feel it too.
The plant medicine ceremonies can take a toll on our bodies. That’s why we provide deep relaxation massage to our guests throughout the duration of the retreat to soften some of those aches and pains.
We only work with trusted massage therapists who understand plant medicine work and who let their experience guide their touch.
Plant baths play a supportive role within our guest’s healing process. The plant medicine ceremonies activate and bring to the surface energies and emotions that have been collected across a lifetime and stored within our body. These are energies and emotions that have left an impression on our hearts which at times manifest in our limiting behaviours, thoughts, and beliefs.
Plant baths help us to cleanse and strengthen the external body. Assisting us to clear resistances which we are struggling to release and let go of.
We find yoga to be a wonderful compliment to the ceremonial work. Our yoga instructors tailor each class based on the energy of the group on each particular day. The sessions are soft, restorative and meditative on days when a gentle practice is necessary. Becoming more physical and energetic at times when energies amongst the group call for a more vigorous practice.
No matter what type of session, our yoga classes are the perfect way to clear the mind, invoke a state of focus and revitalise your mind, body, and spirit.
Ayahuasca Diet Food
Our wonderful chef Julian prepares our meals with love and creative flair. Julian comes from the remote Q’ero community – one of the last Andean communities to be reached by the Europeans. The Q’ero tradition and ancient Q’ero healing practices are still intact today. We are very conscious of the energy carried through in our food. This is particularly important when we are in powerful plant medicine retreat. Fresh local ingredients and Ayahuasca friendly dishes nourish us throughout the retreat. We do eat locally caught trout as well as chicken on an occasion throughout the retreat. However, the menu is primarily Vegetarian/Vegan and Gluten-Free. We have no problems catering for allergies and special diets.
Music & Song
At Spirit Plant Journeys, music is an extremely important aspect of the retreat experience. Our Maestro and facilitators are all talented musicians who understand the beauty and magic of music as a medicine in its own right.
From the beginning right through to the closing, our Ayahuasca Ceremonies involve the use of powerful medicine songs (or icaros). Along with healing songs accompanied by guitar and drums. This is music that our guests tell us stay with them long after the retreat is done, playing in their hearts throughout their post-integration process. We would not be who we are without music and song. It is a part of us. And, just another one of those things that makes our retreat a little different from the rest.
Throughout the course of the retreat we participate in sharing circles. These sharing circles function to help us build trust in one another and the medicine, to learn from each other, and to open ourselves up to vulnerability. Sharing throughout such a powerful spiritual experiences also helps us to forge strong connections, trust, and cohesion amongst the group. All of the trust and support inspired in us through these sharing circles help us to go deeper into the plant medicine work.
There is ample opportunity to speak with facilitators and the shamans as we are constantly present for the groups. Our facilitators translate live and are highly proficient in Spanish.
